For weeks, I've been researching (or at least trying to research) e-commerce as it applies to publishers, particularly small and start-up publishers. The conventional wisdom is that publishing is a capital-intensive business. The up-front costs of producing, manufacturing, warehousing, promoting and shipping a publication is prohibitively high for everyone except the biggest publishers. The last few decades have seen significant consolidation in the industry. And with each new merger, the argument is the same: only through economies of scale can publishers remain profitable. |

I started posting yesterday, but I've been struggling with Drupal for weeks. I've watched webcasts and played around with features. But through it all, there is an essential core that I'm not understanding. Babysteps. Today, I worked out Themes and downloaded the Front Page module. But right now I just want to figure out how to get the Aggregator module to work. |

This is the first website I've ever attempted, and the prospect is daunting. But there's no other way to do this than jump in with both feet. My plans for this site is to analyze e-commerce as it pertains to very small publishers. That is, what are the low-cost options for start-up and self publishers? So now I've started. |
